Symptoms/Treatment
When another car slams into yours, thousands of pounds of force are produced, and your body can very easily be injured. Many injuries can result from an auto accident, with whiplash being the most common and most known.
A Whiplash is an injury to the neck caused by a rapid movement of the head backward, forward, or side-to-side. The hidden danger with neck injuries is that underlying problems may take years to develop. Too often people don't seek treatment until more serious issues develop, like degenerative arthritis in the injured area, to herniated disks

Treatment
There are many approaches treating traumatic injuries like whiplash. There are three phases to care.
Phase I
First the extent of the damage and cause of pain must be diagnosed. Our physicians will diagnose your condition by:
- Performing a detailed physical examination to evaluate your injuries
- X-ray studies to rule out fracture
- EKG exam (only with chest contusions)
- MRI or CT study (with more serious injuries or head trauma)
Phase II
Once the extent of the injuries is determined treatment can begin.
- Medications will be prescribed to help control pain and inflammation. Some patients may choose not use medication if they would like a more holistic approach to care.
- A specific therapy program will be prescribed by one of our physicians. The most appropriate form of care will be selected including physical therapy and/or chiropractic care.
- More serious injuries may require injections to relieve pain and inflammation.
- For the most severe injuries surgical consultation will be set up with some of the top surgeons in Northern California.
Phase III
Return to normal activities of daily. Continue home exercises/stretches to minimize flare ups. Enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
